In November, Class 2 were invited to take part in The Christmas Journey. We walked down to the newly built Methodist church in Willington, and were welcomed by a group of adults who were going to be telling the Christmas story through acting and puppets.
We travelled back in time to Mary’s kitchen where she was baking bread (which we all tasted) Suddenly! an angel appeared and gave the great news to Mary. We then moved to the hillside where the shepherds were guarding their sheep. Everyone was encouraged to help the shepherds take care of their sheep by becoming a shepherd for a day. Tea-towels were secured and sheep guarded as angels gave the news of the baby born in Bethlehem.
We moved on to watch a puppet show by the animals in the stable. Cow, horse, donkey and sheep all told us how Jesus had been born in their stable and how busy the night had been with visitors all coming to see the new born baby.
Next, we visited a wise man who showed us lots of gifts that he was taking to the new baby. He told us that he had been studying the stars and a new star had appeared in the night sky which meant a new king had been born. He was preparing to travel on his camel with two other wise men.
At the end of our journey we were reminded of how Jesus was a gift to mankind and the children started a craft activity to take home.
It was a lovely afternoon and the children were reminded of the true meaning of Christmas.
